A Sramik League man was killed in a clash between activists of Jatiya Party and Awami League in Santahar municipality under Adamdighi upazila of Bogra this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, also younger brother of Awami League mayoral candidate in the recently held municipality election Rashedul Islam Raja who lost the polls.

After the municipal polls held on December 30, the local AL men alleged that the JP supporters did not cast their votes in favour of Raja.

Activists of both the parties locked into an altercation around 1:00pm over the issue.

At one stage, they attacked each other with sharp weapons that left Shafiqul dead on the spot.

The ruling party men also torched the houses of several JP men in the area.

On information, police rushed in and fired 30 gunshots in the air and teargas shell to bring the situation under control, said officer-in-charge of Adamdighi Police Station Shawkat Kabir.
