Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad today criticised his own party for failing to play due role as opposition party in the parliament, saying it has turned into a “domestic opposition”.

In Bangladesh, opposition party usually comes to power in alternate terms. Jatiya Party cannot come to power as it has failed to become a real opposition party, he said while addressing a meeting at his Banani office in Dhaka.

“We have become a domestic opposition organisation now. We could have come to power had we turned into a real opposition party in the parliament,” added Ershad, also a special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
