If Khaleda’s graft is not proved, quit: Moudud to govt

The ruling Awami League will have to step down if it fails to prove BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s money laundering scam, the party’s Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed said today.

“Either prove Khaleda Zia’s money laundering scam or step down,” Moudud called the ruling Awami League while addressing a discussion at the National Press Club in Dhaka this noon.

The government is trying to divert people’s attention from the national crises by bringing graft allegations against Khaleda Zia, he said.

At a press conference, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday blamed Khaleda Zia and her elder son Tareque Rahman for investing around $12 billion in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other countries.

Earlier on Thursday, while speaking at a press conference at Gono Bhaban, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also brought up allegations of money laundering against Khaleda Zia.

Responding to the allegation, Moudud also a former law minister said, “Why the allegations now? We the countrymen will not trust in the false and baseless stories.”

He also claimed that the popularity of the government has reached at the zero-level.
