BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged the government to immediately hold a “national convention” to fight militancy.

“Wearing the mask of democracy, the government is conducting a one-party rule,” the BNP leader said at a programme at Nayapaltan in Dhaka, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

He was addressing the programme held for commemorating the death of Maniruzzaman Miah, a former vice chancellor of Dhaka University, organised by Zia Parishad, the daily said. Miah was the founder of Zia parishad.

The ruling party is imposing its ideals in every stage of the education sector, he claimed.

Not only BNP or 20-party alliance, the ruling party cannot accept anybody else’s opinion, Fakhrul alleged.
