BNP leaders criticise PM for ‘false statement’

BNP leaders today criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her comments that BNP held power in 2001 through an undertaking with India.

“It is an irresponsible and unfortunate remark and the prime minister should withdraw it,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.

“Sheikh Hasina is in a responsible position, but her comments were made out of place and it shows an irresponsible attitude,” he said while talking to The Daily Star.

BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu also criticised the premier and called upon her to “prove her allegations in papers before the people”.

“Otherwise, the prime minister will have to apologise before the nation for such false statement,” he said while speaking at a human chain programme in Dhaka.

‘Hasina’s ties with India in a huff’

BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy alleged that the prime minister is “in a huff with India now” and that the relation between the two is not going well.

Speaking at a discussion at city’s Photo Journalist Association, Goyeshwar also said “Hasina is now talking against India. But she will return to the right track after end of her huff period.”

Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh Nap organised the discussion marking the 38th death anniversary of Moshiur Rahman Jadu Mia.

Addressing at the discussion, Goyeshwar said the present government has “masters abroad” but does not have any friend. “But Ziaur Rahman had friends abroad, not masters.”
