BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the government wants to use militancy issue for its political gain instead of eliminating the menace from the country.

“Militancy, a dangerous demon, is spreading across the country while the government is using the issue to suppress its political opponents,” Fakhrul alleged.

The BNP leader came up with the allegation while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at BNP founder Ziaur Rahman's grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Dhaka marking the 36th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal.

Alleging the government for its failure to eliminate the militancy from the country, Fakhrul said the real offenders remain untouched.

People from all classes equivocally want national unity and the national unity is needed to get rid of the prevailing situation, he said.

Rejecting Awami League’s allegation that Ziaur Rahman had involved in the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Fakhrul said the then Awami League men, not Ziaur Rahman, were active behind the killing.
