Govt is patronising militancy: Fakhrul

The government is patronising militancy for its ulterior motive, BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today.

“The government is patronising militancy. It is neither seeking its root nor conducting proper investigation into it,” Fakhrul said while talking to reporters after placing wreath at Zia’s grave in Dhaka, reports Prothom Alo.

The veteran politician also alleged that the government wants to exploit the militancy issue for political gains.

“Much blame has been shifted to liberal democratic parties, which indicates the government wants to protract the issue to gain political ends,” he said.

Expressing his concern over the anti-militant raid in Sylhet and the consequent killings of innocent people there, Fakhrul said they have not dubbed it drama and his party wants proper investigation into each and every incident of militant attacks.

He also urged the government to forge national unity to prevent militancy.

“Democracy, which is one of the key spirits of the liberation war, is absent now,” he said adding that people’s freedom of speech has been forfeited.
