Gas price hike: BNP’s countrywide demo Mar 2

BNP today announced a countrywide sit-in programme on March 2 protesting increase of gas price.

“The sit-in programme will be observed from 10:00am to 12:00pm,” BNP senior joint secretary general Rizvi Ahmed said at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.

Rizvi however did not elaborate about the details of the programme -- how and where it would be observed.

“The government’s decision to increase gas price is nothing but a reflection of its undemocratic character. The government does not hesitate to ignore people’s will as it considers people as animal,” Rizvi said in a written statement.

He also alleged that the present government has so far increased price of gas five times.

Rizvi claimed the government has become deaf and dumb as it has engaged in feast of looting and corruption.

“There are many crisis and problems prevailing in the country. But the government has no time to pay heed to resolve those issues,” added Rizvi.
