Ctg’s iconic figure Mohiuddin laid to rest

Chittagong’s iconic figure and ruling Awami League’s port city unit chief, ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury has been laid to eternal rest at his family burial ground in Chashma Hill.

A namaz-e-janaza was held in attendance of hundreds of thousands of people and a local administration-performed guard of honour given at Laldighi Maidan this afternoon.

Later, pre to burial, a second janaza was held at Chashma Hill after Maghrib prayers, our Chittagong staff correspondent, who is following the development from spot, reports.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was present in Laldighi as the city people bid their final adieu to the 73-year-old long-standing former mayor of Chittagong city.

Mohiuddin, a recognised freedom fighter, passed away at a hospital in Chittagong around 3:00am today, Mohiuddin’s son Mahibul Hasan Noufel told our Chittagong staff correspondent.

He left his two sons, three daughters, wife and a host of relatives, friends and well-wishers.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their profound shock at the demise of the veteran politician and extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
