EC to sit for DCC polls date

The Election Commission will hold a meeting with the officials of education ministry and law enforcement agencies on Thursday to discuss the date for Dhaka city corporation polls.

The meeting will be held at the Election Commission Secretariat at 11:00am, an EC official told The Daily Star.

The commission has started preparations for holding elections to the bifurcated Dhaka city corporations (DCC) in late May or early June.

The schedule for the city corporation election is usually declared around 40 to 45 days ahead of the polling day.

The last DCC election was held in April 2002. The polls could not be held in time due to complexities regarding the demarcation of the boundary of Dhaka South City Corporation.

Earlier on February 16, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a cabinet meeting asked LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam to take steps for holding the election.
