President Abdul Hamid today considered the Jatiya Party’s proposal on formation of an acceptable Election Commission as positive saying that a framework of the commission would come out through the dialogue.

“Discussion is very important for democracy. A framework comes out and a scope of exchanging views with political leaders is created through the discussion,” the president said in a press statement this afternoon after holding talks with JP.

During the talks held at Bangabhaban, an 18-member delegation of JP submitted a five-point proposal before the president on formation of an acceptable Election Commission.

The president said the proposal will play a positive role to reconstitute the Election Commission, according to a statement signed by Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan, assistant press secretary to the president.

The president also welcomed the JP delegation while the JP Chairman H M Ershad expressed his satisfaction and gratitude to the president.

Praising the president’s initiative for the dialogue, the JP leaders clarified their logic on a specific law to form the Election Commission, the statement read.

Sampad Barua, secretary to the president’s office, Maj Gen Sarwar Hossain, military secretary to the president, and president’s press secretary Joynal Abedin were also present at the meeting.
