Disclose reason behind change in Islami Bank: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today asked the government to disclose the reason behind the change in governing body of Islami Bank.

Citing finance minister’s claim that the change has been brought in the face of pressure from local and foreign quarters, Fakhrul said “We have rights to know about the pressure group.”

He was addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka this afternoon a day after the government brought the change in the governing body of Islami Bank.

He also wanted to know the problems the bank created for which the changes were made in the board.

Referring to Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s remark that it will be a mistake if BNP is treated as a weak political party, Fakhrul said AL has become able to realise the truth at last.

“I thank Obaidul for his realisation. We will show our strength when people will get rights to vote freely.”

He said the country is running under two types of laws, one for Awami League men and other for the mass people.

The BNP leader also said that his party has so far sought approval from the authorities concerned to stage public rally but it did not get permission seven times.

About being deprived of permission to hold rally at Suhrawardi Udyan marking the ‘black day’ on January 5, Fakhrul said the government does not allow BNP to hold rally as it fears peoples.
