BNP has some hope on EC dialogue outcome: Fakhrul

BNP has some hope on the outcome of the dialogue with Election Commission (EC) for holding a free, fair and all-inclusive general election, the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters today.

“We have some hope over the dialogue result though the EC has little to do in the country’s prevailing political situation,” the BNP leader briefed the reporters after the three-hour meeting with the EC today.

During the dialogue, BNP demanded election-time supportive government for holding the next general election in a free, fair and exclusive manner.

“We have demanded for election-time supportive government and proposed to dissolute the parliament before the polls,” Fakhrul said emerging from the meeting.

“We also raised the demand of army deployment during the elections,” he added.

Fakhrul added that submission of nomination papers through online were also main points among our 20-point proposals.

Earlier in the morning, a 16-member delegation led by Fakhrul went to the EC office for holding a dialogue regarding the next parliamentary elections.   

As part of the EC’s ongoing dialogue with political parties ahead of the next national election, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda started the meeting with the BNP delegation around 11:00am in presence of the election commissioners and its high officials. 

The delegation including BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamir Uddin Sirca, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mi, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Abbas and Abdul Moyeen Khan, party Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, former cabinet secretary and party leader Abdul Halim, former bureaucrat Ismail Zabiullah and former Election Commission (EC) secretary Abdur Rashid Sarker reached the EC office around 10:50am.
