AL candidate for Dhaka-10 by-polls Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin failed to cast his vote as his fingerprint did not match with the server information, an assistant presiding officer has said.

Mohiuddin went to cast his vote at Lake Circus Girls High School in Kalabagan in the morning and tried to vote through electronic voting machine (EVMs), the official said.

While visiting New Model Bohumukhi Uchcha Bidyaloy centre, Mohiuddin told the reporters that he could not cast his vote due to a "technical glitch".

"I have informed the polling officials that I will cast my vote later," he said.

While visiting New Model Bohumukhi Uchchha Bidyaloy centre, our reporters found very few voters at the two polling centres -- male and female -- set up there.

About the low turnout of voters, Mohiuddin said there is panic among people and that is the reason behind the low turnout.

Only 23 female voters, out of 2,998, and 85 male voters, out of 3,767, cast their votes at the centres till noon.

Mojahidul Islam and Manjurul Hasan, presiding officers, said coronavirus is a factor behind the low turnout of voters.

There are 321,275 voters under 117 polling centres in Dhaka-10 (Dhanmondi and Lalbagh).

The Dhaka-10 seat fell vacant as AL MP Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh resigned on December 29 to contest the Dhaka South City Corporation election.
