The Chittagong University authority today decided in principle to hold the election to the university’s central students’ body, Cucsu.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Conference Room of Vice-Chancellor’s Office where CU VC Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury, all the provosts of the university, and the proctorial body were present.

Prof Sultan Ahmed, the convener of CU Provost Committee, said the university authority has decided in principle to hold the election to Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu).

“But the date and time were not discussed in the meeting”, he said, adding that the CU authority will work to upgrade the principles of Cucsu election and other related things.

After the establishment of CU in 1966, Cucsu elections have been held six times. The first Cucsu election was held in 1970 while the last one was held in 1990.

CU authority shut down Cucsu in 1990 following the killing of Chhatra Oikyo leader Farukuzzaman in a bloody clash with Islami Chhatra Shibir, student front of Jamaat-e-Islami.
