BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today said her party has been enforcing movement to “re-establish” the trend of multi-party democracy in the country and to protect its sovereignty.

“The government is signing anti-state deals ignoring national interest while its democracy is dying,” Khaleda said in a written statement marking her party’s 38th founding anniversary.

The country’s independence and sovereignty are in the face of a threat as its law and order situation took a serious turn after the farcical January 5 general election, she said.

The spree of abduction, killing, enforced disappearance, extortion and terrorism is going on indiscriminately. Besides, people are facing an acute crisis of water, gas and electricity, she said.

“We cannot sit idle in this suffocating situation. We are engaged in carrying out movement to retrieve the people’s shattered rights and dignity,” said Khaleda, also a former prime minister.
