BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today called upon the people to take to the street to wage a tough movement against “repressive and oppressive acts of government” after Eid-ul-Fitr.

“All individuals will have to take decision whether we will keep lamenting or wage a resistance against repression and oppression of the government,” Khaleda said urging the people to go for the movement.

The former prime minister was addressing an iftre party organised by National People’s Party at Hotel Purbani in Dhaka this evening.

Calling up on the students and youths to take a lead in the movement, Khaleda said she will not accept any election in the country keeping Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina in power.

“We will have to be united to wage a movement in a peaceful manner so that the next general election is held in a free and fair atmosphere,” she said.

Reiterating her party’s demand for installation of supportive polls-time government, Khaleda said no election under Hasina administration will be accepted.

Budget to hurt poor

Khaleda slammed the government for imposing excise duty on bank deposits and 15 percent uniform VAT and said it will affect the country’s poor people severely.

“The ruling party leaders will not be affected by the excise duty as they keep their money in foreign banks,” she said.

She also said that people are passing through crisis as prices of daily essentials are increasing significantly.

Claiming that there is no peace of people in the country, Khaleda said killing, abduction and other criminal offences are happening daily under the very nose of the law enforcers.
