Ruling party minister trying to influence CCC polls: BNP

BNP delegation meets CEC

BNP today alleged that a minister of the ruling Awami League is trying to influence the Comilla City Corporation (CCC) election.

A two-member delegation of BNP lead by the party’s standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan brought the allegation to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.

BNP Organising Secretary Emran Saleh Prince briefed reporters after emerging from the meeting with CEC at his Election Commission office this afternoon.

They alleged to the CEC that Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is “trying to influence” the CCC election in order to see his party-backed candidate victorious, Prince said.

Comilla City Corporation will go into election tomorrow.

More than two lakh voters are entitled to cast their ballots tomorrow to elect city mayor from four contestants --  former mayor BNP nominated Monirul Hoque Shakoo, former ward councillor and AL candidate Anjum Sultana Sima, Shirin Akter from Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rob) and independent candidate Maj (Ret) Mamunur Rashid.
