BNP is suffering from frustration after its attempt to catch fish in troubled waters centering the quota reform movement failed, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave a timely announcement over the movement that foiled BNP's evil attempt to catch fish in troubled waters," Quader told reporters in Bhulta, Narayanganj.

Pointing finger at BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, in London since 2007, Quader said BNP was engaged in hatching a plot to turn the protests into a political movement, our local correspondent reports.

“Directives were coming in from London, and they were going to act per the instructions,” he said.

Responding to a query, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said: "The announcement of abolishing the existing quota system in public services is time-worthy if we want to do something new."

Stressing the need for scrutinising the existing quota system, Quader said: "A committee led by the cabinet secretary will examine the issue and then they will reach a realistic and logical solution”.
