Khaleda gets bail in 2 cases, state files appeal

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today secured High Court bail in two criminal cases filed in Comilla and was denied the same in another case of Narail.

Hours after she secured the bails, the government filed separate appeals with the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the High Court’s order.

She was granted six-month bail in the cases filed over vandalism in Chouddagram, Comilla, on January 2015, and killing of eight and injuring 25-26 others by setting fire on a passenger bus in Chouddagram on February 2, 2015.

Two appeals were filed against the bail hours after the order, upon which the chamber judge is expected to hold hearings tomorrow, Deputy Attorney General Ekramul Haque told The Daily Star.

Meanwhile, Khaleda was denied bail in the defamation suit filed with a Narail court on September 24, 2015, over making a statement on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the number of freedom fighters, because what the High Court said “the petition was not properly moved”.
