Bar to BNP leader Alal’s travel illegal: HC

The High Court today declared illegal the government action of obstructing BNP leader Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal at Shahjalal International Airport for 17 times since 2013 when he was going abroad.

The court also directed the authorities concerned of the government not to create any obstruction to Alal while going abroad or returning home in future.

The HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Alal challenging the legality of the government decision to obstruct the petitioner at from leaving the country.

Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon, a lawyer for Alal, told The Daily Star that the immigration authorities have obstructed a client from going abroad by keeping him waiting at the Dhaka airport for 17 times since 2013.

The immigration also lodged 17 alternative general diaries creating obstruction to Alal’s going abroad. The HC declared the alternative general diaries (GD) illegal, he said.

The lawyer said the HC came up with the verdict on the ground as every citizen has right to free movement all over the world subject to restriction from the court under the constitution.
