Nat'l polls schedule on first week of November

Election schedule for the next parliamentary polls will be announced on the first week of November, Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said today.

The EC secretary made the announcement while addressing a press briefing after emerging from a meeting with a European Union (EU) team at EC office in Dhaka’s Agargaon.

During the meeting with EU team, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda mentioned that the polls schedule would be announced on the first week of November, Helal Uddin said.

On September10, the EC secretary declared that the polls schedule would be announced any day after October 30.

EU for inclusive, participatory elections

During today’s meeting, the EU team stressed the need for holding a free, fair, inclusive and participatory election.

In response, the commission assured of taking every possible lawful measure in this regard.

The EU team also wanted to know during the meeting about EVM, manpower, election observers, law enforcement, voting system for the expatriates, voter list etc, the secretary said in reply to a question from journalists.

Four election commissioners, chief election commissioner and the secretary was present at the meeting with the EU representative team which included ambassadors of seven countries, according to AKM Majharul Islam, personal secretary of the CEC.
