Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men obstruct classes at Barisal University
They demand cancellation of recruitment process without FF quota
Academic activities at Barisal University have been hampered as the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) university unit padlocked the academic building on the campus protesting an ongoing recruitment process without freedom fighters’ quota.
Many teachers and students could not enter their classrooms as the protesting BCL men locked the main gate of the academic building and classrooms and other rooms except vice chancellor’s office around 8:00am, our Barisal correspondent reports quoting the protesters.
The university authorities have decided to hold a syndicate meeting in Dhaka this afternoon to resolve the issue, Shafiul Alam, proctor of the university, told The Daily Star.
Around 11:00am, the proctor said the university authorities could not hold any classes due to the BCL protest.
The BCL protesters demanded cancellation of the recent employment process of the university as the authorities did not keep any freedom fighters’ quota for the recruitment.
They also demanded removal of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr SM Imamul Huq of the university in this connection.
They were continuing the protest peacefully for the past several days but the authorities did not take any step to fulfill their demand, Imran Hossain Naim, one of the BCL activists, told the correspondent.
Additional police were deployed on the campus, Asaduzzaman, assistant commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said.
Advocate SM Iqbal, president of Barisal Sangskritik Sangothan Smonnya Parishad, and convener of the committee for restoring quota of freedom fighters, said that they were also demanding cancellation of the employment process.
