Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has dared BNP to stop the next election, which he asserted will be held under the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Just wait and see how the next general election is held as per constitution,” he said while speaking at a rally of the ruling Awami League at Banani on the anniversary of January 5.

“We, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will resist you (Khaleda) if you show any audacity to resist it,” Quader said, responding to recent remarks of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Khaleda, on Tuesday, remarked that no election will be allowed in the country without BNP and it would not be possible to keep her party out of the election that her party wants to be organised under a non-partisan neutral government.

Addressing the programme to mark the “Victory Day for Democracy”, Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, asked BNP to participate in the next election without creating any chaos.

Quader said time and tide wait for none. “So, the next election will not wait for anyone.”

Issuing a note of caution, Quader said if BNP does not participate in the election it will face another political setback that has faced after boycotting the election held in January 5, 2014.
