Quader hopes GCC polls to be held peacefully

Awami League General Secretary and Roads Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today expressed his optimism that the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election will be held in free, fair, neutral and peaceful manners.

“No untoward incidents took place so far ahead of the Gazipur City Corporation elections. Peaceful atmosphere is prevailing in the entire city corporation area. The polls will also be held peacefully,” he told a press conference at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka.

AL joint general secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organising Secretary Ahmed Hossain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil Education and Human Resource Affairs Secretary Shamsunnahar Chapa, Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Awami League Central Working Committee members SM Kamal Hossain and Advocate Riazul Kabir Kawser were present on the occasion, among others.

The minister said as per the constitution, the government has extended support to the Election Commission to hold the GCC polls in a free and fair manner.

Quader urged the voters of GCC polls to cast their votes in favor of those candidates who are competent.

The AL general secretary said his party does not want to tarnish the history of polls as like as BNP did in Magura, Mirpur (Dhaka) by polls and national election on February 15, 1996.
