Quader says he will meet CJ again

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said he will meet Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha again, amid waves of opposition from the ruling alliance over 16th amendment verdict.

“I had a long time meeting with the chief justice,” Quader said, shedding light on his first meeting with the chief justice – a move that has met criticism from political oppositions.

“I will do the same again as discussion with the chief justice has not yet been finished,” Quader, also read transport and bridges minister, said at a programme in Dhaka today.

About the discussion, Quader said he went to the chief justice’s residence and discussed about the observations made by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha in the 16th amendment verdict.

“My party’s stand over the observations has been conveyed to the chief justice. I don’t want to make any comment before ending the discussion,” he said assuring that “all will be revealed in time”.

Political opposition BNP has sounded concern over Quader’s meeting and has accused him of pressurising the chief justice in the motive to bring changes to his verdict.

The Supreme Court’s dismissal of the 16th amendment to the constitution has been the topic of politicians since it had severely criticised the role of the incumbent government.

Ruling Awami League lawmakers are criticising the verdict and the chief justice who delivered it, whereas, opposition BNP is saying that it had exposed the misdeeds of the government.

Today, the ruling Awami League-led alliance finally expressed its formal reaction to the verdict and a demand to review the verdict and bring changes to its observations was univocal.

Quader was addressing a function marking the birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the elder son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at Sheikh Russel Roller Skating Complex in the city.
