A group of people under banner ‘Asol BNP’ (literally meaning real BNP) today attempted to occupy BNP’s central office, the third try in five months.

Around a dozen men, who made the attempt wielding a banner of “Showdown of revolution”, were chased away by BNP activists at Nayapaltan around 1:15pm, witnesses and police said.

They were chanting slogans in favour for Kamrul Hasan Nasim, a self-declared convener of the so-called Asol BNP, who has been dubbed as a government agent by BNP.

The BNP men later staged demonstrations there, chanting anti-government slogans, Morshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station, said.

Nasim came in the spotlight on January 9 last year when he said he wants to bring a change to the command of BNP and free the party of “illegal leadership of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.”

Talking to The Daily Star today, Nasim said he will move afresh to take over the office.
