AL welcomes polls schedule

Hopes all parties to join the election

Awami League today welcomed the Election Commission’s decision for fixing the 11th parliamentary polls schedule on December 23 and expressed its hope that all political parties would join the polls in a festive mode.

“A smokescreen had been created over the national election, but it was erased today through the announcement of its schedule,” Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said soon after the announcement of the election schedule.

Talking to reporters after a meeting at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office, Hanif said the next general election will be held according to the schedule and there is no confusion in this regard.

“I hope all political parties would join the election in a festive mode,” the AL leader said.

11th parliamentary election schedule

The 11th parliamentary election will be held on December 23, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda announced while addressing the nation this evening.

He announced the schedule for the 11th parliamentary polls in his televised speech amid strong opposition from Jatiya Oikyafront, comprising the BNP and several other parties.

The CEC said the aspirants will have to submit their nomination papers by November 19.

The nomination papers will be scrutinised on November 22, he said adding that the last date for withdrawing candidature is November 29.
