BNP Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed today said the proposals placed to the Election Commission by the ruling Awami League is a barrier for holding a free and fair election.

“The election will not be fair under any ruling party government,” Moudud told reporters in front of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka where he was waiting to welcome BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Awami League has submitted its proposals to make their power longer, he said adding that the EC will have to perform its duty independently for the sake of a fair election.

Moudud said Khaleda Zia will soon come up with the outlines of election-time neutral government before the nation.

Earlier in the day, a 22-member AL delegation led by its General Secretary Obaidul Quadersat held talks with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda at EC office.

During its dialogue with the EC, AL placed an 11-point proposal, including following the constitutional provision under which the incumbent prime minister would remain the head of the polls-time government.
