Police and VIPs break traffic rules

If a picture speaks a thousand words then the one carried by this newspaper on March 7, of a police- escorted flag car going on the opposite side of the road, in flagrant violation of traffic rules, spoke many times more.
That was but one instance captured of the many such violations every day of traffic rules by MPs, Ministers and State Ministers, and anyone who is authorised to adorn a mini flag staff in the cars.
The picture speaks of the crass disregard for law by those who enact, and are supposed to uphold, laws. It showed brazen disrespect for law by the police who are not only supposed to respect it at all times but also ensure compliance.  
But should it be allowed at all? In no country does anyone have special right of way on the streets moving on the proper side. In Bangladesh, VIPs, which include star plate cars of the military, cars of the election commissioners and even members of the Public Service Commission, exploit their position to break traffic rules in such flagrant manner.
What these VIPs who are always in a hurry fail to understand is that their actions infringe on the right of others to move on the roads safely, that their action puts at risk not only theirs but the life of the others too, and that they set a very bad example.
If VIPs don't obey the law, why should others? Such brazen violation of traffic rules must cease. The VIPs should start for their appointment early rather than put people's life at risk.
