Poison sprayed on paddy, man killed by nephews

Paddy plants at a field in Phulbari upazila under Dinajpur district got destroyed as a sequel to a land dispute on Saturday night while a man was hacked to death by his nephews over a similar issue in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar on Sunday night.
A group of people poisoned the paddy plants on one acre of land at Moheshpur village in Phulbari upazila on Saturday night over a land dispute, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.
On Monday night, Khetab Uddin, son of late Khoyer Uddin of Moheshpur village in Phulbari upazila, filed a complaint with Phulbari police station accusing seven people of the crime.
They are -- Taslim Uddin, 60, son of late Ismail Hossain, Mohibul Islam, 25, Masud Rana, 23, and Mahfuzul Haque, 21, sons of Mohibul Islam, Golam Mostafa, 45, Md Hitler, 35, and Shahidul Islam, 40, sons of Khalilur Rahman, of Rambhadrapur village in Phulbari upazila.
The seven people damaged the paddy of one acre of land at Moheshpur village by spraying poison on May 10 [Saturday] night as a sequel to a land dispute, goes the complaint.
Cases are pending with courts over the land dispute, it adds.
Contacted, Khetab Uddin said his father purchased the land in 1965 from Monir Uddin, but his sons are now claiming the land.
Rabiul Hasan Khan, officer in charge of Phulbari police station, said they are investigating the incident.
The correspondent failed to contact Taslim Uddin for his version as his mobile phone was found off.
Our Moulvibazar Correspondent reports: Two youths killed their uncle over a land dispute at Karimpur village in Rajnagar upazila under the district on Sunday night.
The deceased, Askir Miah, 55, son of late Johur Miah of the village, had a dispute with his nephew Mujib Miah of the village over the ownership of a piece of land, said Nazim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Rajnagar Police Station.
Following an altercation between Askir and Mujib over the issue after 10:00pm on Sunday, Mujib, 27, and his brother Mubin, 25, hit Askir with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. He died on the way to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Police sent the body to the hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC said.
Mujib and Mubin went into hiding after the incident.
