Poet Abul Hussain passes away

Poet Abul Hussain, a pioneer of modernism in Bengali poetry, passed away in his residence on Sunday.
He left behind two daughters, two sons, and grandchildren.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held today at 1:30pm at Taqwa mosque on 12/A Dhanmondi in the capital.
He will be buried in Mirpur martyrs intellectuals' graveyard the same day following his second namaz-e-janaza on Bangla Academy premises at 2:30pm.
Many intellectuals like Binoi Kumar Sarkar, Niharranjan Ray and Shubodh Sengupta appreciated his first poetry book published in 1940.
He has over 30 books including Birosh Shonglap (Unpleasant Dialogues, 1969) and Hawa Tomarkee Dushahosh (Eve, How Daring You Were, 1982).
Abul Hussain was born on August 15, 1922. He obtained a master's in Economics from Calcutta University and served as the editor of the Rabindra Parishad of Presidency College.
Hussain has received many awards including the Ekushey Padak, the Bangla Academy Award, the Padabali Award and The Nasiruddin Gold Medal.
Bangla Academy mourned for its honourable fellow Hussain, says a press release.
