PM to attend Bimstec Summit March 4

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lead a 32-member delegation at the 3rd Bimstec Summit in Nay Pyi Taw of Myanmar scheduled to be held on March 4.
Hasina will leave Dhaka for Nay Pyi Taw, the administrative capital of Myanmar, on Monday to attend the summit.
One day prior to the summit, a ministerial-level meeting among the member countries of the Bimstec (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) there.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam will lead the Bangladesh delegation at the meeting.
In the upcoming Bimstec Summit, the heads of states will table a stock of progress made since the last summit, exchange views on various aspects of the group’s collective engagements and set the future direction of the organisation.
The summit will adopt a declaration and the following three instruments are expected to be signed:
i) Memorandum of association (MoA) on the establishment of Bimstec permanent secretariat in Dhaka,
ii) Memorandum of association (MoA) on the establishment of Bimstec centre for weather and climate in India,
iii) Memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Bimstec culture industries commission and Bimstec cultural industries observatory to be set up in Bhutan.    
The Bimstec is a regional grouping of seven members from South Asia and South East Asia.
The member countries are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Established in 1997, Bimstec held its first and second summits in 2004 and 2008 in Bangkok and New Delhi respectively.
