Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought Norwegian investment in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector of Bangladesh.

The prime minister made the request when she had a meeting with her Norwegian counterpart Erna Solberg at the Bilateral Room of the UN Headquarters in New York yesterday.

After the meeting, PM's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury briefed reporters.

He said the two leaders discussed issues related to bilateral interests.

The Norwegian prime minister highly appreciated Bangladesh's outstanding development in the ICT sector.

In this connection, she mentioned digitisation in various fields under the initiative of Hasina.

The prime minister called upon Erna Solberg to visit Bangladesh to see for herself the development in the ICT sector.

"You can see for yourself the marvellous success that took place in the ICT sector in Bangladesh over the last five and a half years," Hasina said.

The Norwegian premier also lauded Bangladesh's progress in women empowerment.

Meanwhile, Hasina is scheduled to join a reception to be hosted by US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at Worldorf Astoria Hotel on Tuesday night.
