PM reaches Kathmandu

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached Nepal this afternoon to attend the 18th Saarc Summit to be held in Kathmandu on November 26-27.

A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the premier and her entourage landed at Tribhuvan International Airport around 4:25pm (local time), reports our correspondent Hasan Jahid Tusher from Kathmandu.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also reached Kathmandu hours before to attend the Summit.

The VVIP Biman flight with Hasina and her entourage on board took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 3:05pm, UNB adds.

Cabinet members and high civil and military officials saw Sheikh Hasina off at the airport.

On Wednesday, she will attend the inaugural session of the Saarc Summit at City Hall (Rashtriya Sabha Griha), Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu.

In the afternoon, the prime minister will have a meeting with her Nepalese counterpart Sushil Koirala at her place of residence.

She is likely to have meetings with Afghan President Dr Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

In the evening, Hasina will attend a banquet to be hosted by Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala in honour of heads of state and government and their spouses. It will be preceded by a cultural programme.

On November 27, Sheikh Hasina will go to Dwarika’s Resort, Dhulikhel, Kavre by a helicopter to attend the Summit retreat.

In the afternoon, she will return to Kathmandu to attend the closing session of the 18th Saarc Summit at the City Hall (Rashtriya Sabha Griha).

Later, the prime minister will go to the President House, Sheetal Niwas (Rastrapati Bhawan), for attending a joint meeting with the Nepalese President along with other heads of state and government.

On Friday, the prime minister will leave Kathmandu for Dhaka at 10:30am (local time) by a VVIP flight of the national flag carrier.

The Nepalese prime minister will see her off at her place of residence. The prime minister is expected to reach Dhaka around 12:05pm.
