BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had provoked "state terrorism" by saying that her party men have the "right to self-defense."

The BNP spokesperson alleged that state-sponsored terrorism has spread across the country as Hasina, also president of Awami League, defended ‘terrorist acts of her party men’.

Fakhrul was addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital organised by Jatiya Gonotantrik Party, a component in the BNP-led 19-party alliance.

Pointing to Hasina’s recent comment in parliament that Chhatra League men have also rights to self-defense,

Fakhrul said ruling party men were inspired by her such speech to attack opposition leaders.

The BNP leader also said the premier has to be accountable for this.

BNP does not believe in terrorism and the party is not involved in any terrorist activity either, he continued.

“People know who are involved in terrorism,” he added.

Fakhrul further said his party's decision of boycotting the January 5 polls was right as it has been proved that no fair election is possible under the Awami League government.
