‘Petrol bomb' hurled at Satkhira teacher’s house, 3 burnt

Three members of a family suffered burn injuries as miscreants hurled a “petrol bomb” on the house of a college teacher in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira early today.

The victims are Jharna Begum, 35, wife of Khalilur Rahman, a lecturer of Sheikh Amanullah Degree College, and their two sons Tanvir Rahman, 12, and Asad Hosen, 7, class one and seven students respectively.

They are undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital, reports our district correspondent.

Khalilur Rahman, also Awami League president of Langoljhala union in the upazila, claimed that miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on his house around 1:00am in an attempt to kill the whole family.

Jharna and her two sons were sleeping on a bed while Khalilur also was lying on the floor at the same room.

“Suddenly, I wake up with a big bang and saw my wife, two sons were burning in a fire caused by the petrol bomb explosion around 1:00am,” Khalilur said.

He along with local people rescued the burnt victims and rushed them to Satkhira Sadar Hospital around 2:30am.

Local lawmaker Mustafa Lutfullah visited the spot and said the attack was ‘premeditated’ as Khalilur is involved with AL politics.

Maruf Hasan, a doctor of the hospital said that the victims suffered 50 to 60 percent burn injuries.

“We are trying to identify the culprits as well as investigating on whether the miscreants used petrol bomb or only kerosene during the attack,” said Sheikh Abu Saleh Masud Karim, officer-in-charge of Kalaroa Police Station.
