Peshkers' strike halts judicial activities in Ctg
Judicial activities at all courts in Chittagong came to a halt as peshkers (bench clerks) started an indefinite work abstention this morning protesting assault on one of their fellows by a group of lawyers.
The reason behind the assault however could not be known immediately.
The work abstention began around 9:00am causing immense sufferings to the justice seekers, particularly who came from remote areas, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
The peshkers padlocked the offices of Metropolitan Magistrate Court and Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court for four hours till 1:00pm, brining to halt the judicial activists of at least 40 courts.
Though the agitating peshkers unlocked the court offices after a meeting between the bench clerks and lawyers, they announced to continue the strike.
Detail on the meeting could not be known immediately.
While talking to The Daily Star, several bench clerks, seeking anonymity, alleged that a section of lawyers forcibly took one of their colleagues to Chittagong Bar Association office and beat him up yesterday evening.
The peshkers also brought out a procession on the court premises demanding immediate punishment of the responsible lawyers.
Some of lawyers, preferring not to be named, admitted that a section of their colleagues assaulted a peshkers yesterday.
