Peace accord implementation depends on PM’s will: Santu Larma

The Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord will be implemented only when the prime minister steps forward and call upon all stakeholders to do it, said Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, president of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) today.

The PCJSS chief, popularly known as Santu Larma, pointed out that civil and military bureaucrats are one of the major obstacles towards the implementation of the treaty.
“It seems the government is delaying to implement the accord in fear of the vested interested group that has been opposing the treaty,” Santu Larma said at a discussionin Dhaka.
“The deprived people from CHT would not sit idle if the government keeps delaying to implement the accord,” he added.
It will not be wise for the government to think them weak, he said reminding the administration about the non-cooperation movement against the government from May 1 next year. The PCJSS had earlier announced the movement earlier.
Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples Forum (BIPF) and Kapeng Foundation jointly organised the programme titled ‘Strengthening Special Administrative Institutions in the Chittagong Hill Tracts in line with the CHT Accord’ held at the auditorium of The Daily Star.
SanjeebDrong, general secretary of BIPF, delivered the welcome speech while Rabindranath Soren, chairperson of Kapaeeng Foundation, chaired the discussion.
Robayet Ferdous, an associate professor at mass communication and journalism department of the Dhaka University, presented a keynote speech at the discussion.
