Pay commission gets six-month extension

The government has extended the tenure of the eighth pay and service commission by six months to December 17, a finance ministry official said.
The 17-member commission headed by Mohammad Farashuddin, former Bangladesh Bank governor, started working on December 17 last year and its tenure was scheduled to expire by June this year.
The commission is supposed to submit a report on the salary hike of 13 lakh government employees by the end of its tenure.
The official said the possibility of implementing the pay commission's recommendations by the next fiscal year is thin.
