Party rivals cut off AL man's wrist

Party rivals severed wrist and tendons of an Awami League activist at Borobazar in Kaliganj upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.
The victim, Iqbal Hossain, 30, is a member of the Borobazar unit of ruling Awami League.
He was admitted to Kaliganj Upazila Heath Complex in a critical condition and then shifted to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
Locals and Barobazaar Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Joynal Abedin said Iqbal, who belongs to a faction of Kaliganj upazila unit backed by former lawmaker Manna, was waiting for bus at Bottala bus stop in the bazar area at around 2:00pm.
At that time, his rivals belonging to incumbent AL lawmaker Anwarul Azim Ana swooped on him, cut off his right hand's wrist and tendons of legs, said the UP chairman, also a supporter of former lawmaker Manna.
Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monir Uddin Mollah of Kaliganj Police Station said he was aware of the incident. No case was filed with the police station as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
