Over 27 students were selected in the last two days as the first round of The Daily Star Spelling Bee's third season continued in nine schools of Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.
On Saturday, the spelling competition was organised in Sunnydale School, Green Gems International School and St Joseph Higher Secondary School in the capital; St Placid's High School and St Scholastica's Girls' High School in Chittagong and Jalalabad Cantonment Public School & College and Scholars Home School & College in Sylhet.

Students shortlisted by teachers are spelling words based on four clues, the part of speech the word is, the word's English and Bangla meaning and its use in a sentence.
The first round will be held for students, except SSC examinees and O level candidates, from class VI-X of 200 English and Bangla medium schools in seven divisions alongside on the web at www.champs21.com all throughout February. Those selected will sit for the second divisional round next month.
