Outlaw killed in Kushtia

A regional leader of outlawed New Biplobi Communist Party was found dead in the district's Khoksa upazila early yesterday.
Akram Ali alias Bhadu, also known as Bhadu dakat, 40, was a son of Adhar Ali in Ektarpur village of the upazila. He was very close to Akdil Hossain alias Buro, one of the founders of the party.
Akdil, who was also the acting chief of the banned outfit, was killed in a “shootout” with police in 2008.
Around 4:30am, a patrol team of Khoksa police found the bullet-hit body of Bhadu on a road in Bashoa village. Police then identified the deceased as Bhadu, said Motiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Khoksa Police Station.
Bhadu's wife Eti Khatun alleged that Pangsha police in Rajbari picked her husband up from Pangsha bus stand area on Saturday night.
However, Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Pangsha Police Station, denied the allegation.
According to police, Bhadu had been running criminal activities, including abduction and robbery, in different areas of Kushtia, Rajbari and Jhenidah for the last 10 years.
He stood accused in at least 40 criminal cases, four of them for murder, filed with different police stations in Kushtia, Rajbari and Jhenidah.
Bhadu was also the prime accused in Jhenidah Sadar Police Station sub-inspector Bashar murder case. Basher was killed in 2010. Bhadu had also been accused in officer-in-charge of Pangsha Police Station Mizanur Rahman killing case. Mizanur was murdered in 2005.
OC Motiar said Bhadu led a drive when NBCP leader Akdil grabbed 300 acres of land at Mukshitpur, Komorbhog and Raipur Chars in 1997 and distributed those among his followers. Bhadu used to extort money from them.
The police official said they were yet to identify the killers of Bhadu. An investigation was going on.
