Show cause notice to 3 Ctg mayor candidates

Three mayor aspirants in the upcoming Chittagong City Corporation elections were served with show cause notices by the returning officer today for breaching electoral code of conduct.

The notices were issued to Awami League-backed AJM Nasir Uddin, BNP-backed M Manjur Alam Manju and Jatiya Party-blessed M Solaiman Alam Seth, said Shafiqur Rahman, assistant returning officer.

“We have got complaints against the mayoral candidates and show cause notices were issued accordingly,” he told our Chittagong correspondent.

The trio was asked to reply within seven days, said Chittagong Election Commission office sources.

Manjur was served with the notice for inaugurating his election office at Dewanhat on March 26, while Nasir breached the electoral code of conduct by carrying out electoral campaign in rented community halls and pasting his electoral posters several times.

On the other hand, the notice was issued to Solaiman for pasting electoral posters in the city walls.
