Fardin Iftekhar Dihan, the lone accused arrested in connection with a case filed over the rape and murder of an English medium school student, today gave his confessional statement to a Dhaka magistrate.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid recorded the confessional statement after Investigation Officer AFM Asaduzzaman, also an inspector of Kalabagan Police Station, produced him [Fardin] at his chamber, court sources said.

The magistrate also sent Fardin to jail after recording the confessional statements.

The details of the confessional statement could not be known yet.

The victim's father filed the case with Kalabagan Police Station against Fardin Iftekhar Dihan under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act yesterday.

In the case statement, the complainant alleged that Fardin tricked his daughter into going to his flat in the capital's Kalabagan area yesterday and raped her when his family members were not home.

Due to the rape, the victim bled profusely and was unconscious. Fardin then took her to hospital to deflect blame, the victim's father alleged.

The victim had injury marks on her private parts, said Professor Dr Sohel Mahmud, head of Dhaka Medical College's Forensic Medicine department, said when briefing reporters after conducting an autopsy of the victim at DMCH morgue.

"Due to those injuries, she bled excessively leading to her death," said Dr Sohel.

Asked whether one or more people were involved in the rape, Dr Sohel Mahmud said they could not say anything in this regard at the moment.

"We have collected the DNA samples of the girl and will be able to inform this after getting the reports."
