Grameenphone to hold first online AGM tomorrow

Grameenphone is going to organise the country's first ever online annual general meeting (AGM) tomorrow morning.

As a listed company this will be the first ever AGM, said Hossain Sadat, head of regulatory affairs of the market leading operator this evening.

"We have completed all our preparation in this regard and actually we are also excited to see this event as well," said Sadat.

A good number of board directors of Grameenphone will join the AGM though the online platform from within the country and abroad, he added.

"Already we have sent passwords and instructions on how to join it with our 32,000 shareholders."

The event, the company's 23rd AGM, will start at 10:30am and will continue for two hours.

Earlier, there was no provision of attending the AGM without being physically present at the event venue but after the Covid-19 outbreak, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission has amended the rule and made a provision to organise online AGMs.

In 2019, the mobile operator of the country has made Tk 3,450 crore net profit against their Tk 14,370 crore revenue.

Meanwhile, another multinational company, British American Tobacco Bangladesh, is also scheduled to hold an online AGM on April 22.
