Govt to buy 40 lakh more machine readable passport booklets

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved a proposal in principle for procuring 40 lakh machine readable passport (MRP) booklets and 40 lakh lamination foils to meet the growing demand.

The approval came from this year's meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs -- the 22nd iteration -- held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

The Department of Immigration and Passports under the Ministry of Home Affairs will procure these on under Direct Procurement Method.

Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal said that, based on 'demand calculation', these MRPs and lamination foils will be procured.
