Be wary of muggers while operating: Police to medicine shop owners

Bangladesh police have instructed emergency supply product and medicine shop owners -- who have permission to keep their shops open after sunset -- to not to allow any strangers to go inside unless it is an emergency.

Police also suggested the shop owners complete financial transactions and deliver products by staying inside the shop and keeping the shutter closed from inside, if possible.

Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General (media and public relations) of Police Headquarters (PHQ), gave the instruction via a video message today, as a part of a measure to curb mugging activities taking place at such shops after sunset.

"We have given the instruction after the pattern of crime changed recently and we started noticing some mugging incidents taking place at some medicine shops," said AIG Rana.

Police have increased their patrolling centering the medicine shops area and mobile patrol teams are also giving special care, he said.

"We are also using CCTV cameras, which have already been installed at different points of the city," he said, adding that police are trying their best to control the situation the best they can.

Earlier on Thursday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary instructed all police unit chiefs to perform duty with utmost professionalism so that crime incidents not rise during the time of the outbreak.
