Miscreants set fire to a bus in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj early today, in the last hours of the 120hr hartal sponsored by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Unidentified miscreants set fire to the parked bus of Apon Paribahan at Mawa intersection around 4:00am and fled the scene, said Eunus Ali, in-charge of Mawa police outpost, adding that the locals doused the flames.
Cops detained 31 alleged activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami from different parts of the country for plans to carry out subversive activities as part of the anti-crime drives launched by the police.
In Dhaka, police detained 11 BNP activists for hatching plans for sabotage, a text message from the media cell of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said.
In Chittagong, at least 20 activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Isliami were held on the same ground, reports our correspondent quoting sources of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).
In Habiganj, miscreants tried to firebomb Kalni Express in Bahubal upazila last night around 10:00pm. But they failed, assistant driver of the train Anal Biswas told The Daily Star.
The BNP-led 20-party alliance called an indefinite countrywide blockade interspersed with hartals from January 6 pressing for demands of a mid-term election.
