Two more arson victims, who suffered severe burns in separate firebomb attacks in Chandpur and Magura, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital today.

Yeadul, 33, and Khorshed Alam, 25, succumbed at the burnt unit of DMCH around 9:30am and 1::00pm respectively, said Sentu Das, an assistant sub-inspector of DMCH police post.

A truck helper, Yeadul, who was injured in a petrol bomb attack in Magura on March 21, suffered 90 percent burn, raising the death toll from the incident in the district to four, Das said.

Criminals hurled two petrol bombs at the Magura-bound truck from Moghirdal area, leaving seven labourers, the driver and his helper injured, police said.

Yeadul was among the nine people who were severely burnt in a mindless arson attack on a truck by pro-hartal activists on the Magura-Jessore highway, hours after the BNP-led 20-party alliance announced a fresh spell of 72-hour countrywide hartal from March 22.

On March 18, Khorshed along with other four others was burnt as unidentified miscreants hurled petrol bombs at two goods-laden trucks in Chandpur Sadar upazila during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s hartal (shutdown).

At least 93 people have been killed so far, in the mindless violence that has ensued since the non-stop nationwide blockade enforced by the BNP-led-20 party alliance since January 6.
